Meet at Council Booth in Rotunda
The American Craft Council will bestow Awards of Excellence to four
artists at the St. Paul Show. Three recipients will receive awards for
the outstanding quality of their work, while one exhibitor will be
recognized for booth design. The juror for the 2011 American Craft
Council show in St. Paul is Mark Pharis. Pharis teaches ceramics at
the University of Minnesota, where he has been a faculty member
since 1985. He was first introduced to ceramics as a student of
Warren MacKenzie in 1967. Pharis’ functional ceramic forms have
appeared in numerous exhibitions and can be found in collections
around the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the
Gardner Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Mark
will lead a walking tour on Friday at 2 pm to present the winning
exhibitors with their awards and discuss what he found exceptional
in each artist’s work or booth design.
